Women Who Care

Women Who Care is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Women in Need. The goal of Women Who Care is to empower women and assist them in having experiences that will enrich their lives and the lives of generations to come. The long-term goal is to have a Women Who Care Center where women can receive medical care, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care and counseling. This will be a gathering place for like-minded health professionals as well as a haven for anyone in need of Love and Nurturing.

The second fundraiser for Women Who Care was at Flatbread Pizza in Paia on Tuesday, November 13th from 5 - 9. There was a silent auction, an opportunity to meet some of the actresses from BIRTH and a chance to ask some questions to the Birth Professionals on Maui. A portion of the proceeds of each pizza (including takeout) will go to Women Who Care, a newly formed non-profit dedicated to helping Maui's women in need. For more information please contact Robin Garrison at 283-3500.

Women Who Care has a vision of a world full of happy people. In our experience, it starts with the children. It starts when parents start thinking about conceiving a child. It continues into the moment of conception and through the pregnancy. The consciousness of the parents during this time is crucial in the development of a child. The BIRTH is a very significant time. This is where the being that has grown inside of us, takes his/her first breath. This is when we must be conscious of the sounds, the voices, the light, the energy, the people present. It is time that every Health Care Professional who comes in contact with a Birthing Mother knows this. If we can educate Women so that they can be empowered when dealing with their Health Professionals and if we can educate Health Professionals so that they can all be gentle, caring, conscious assistants, then, we can make a difference. If we can educate the public so that they can care for children and families by being conscious of their environment and what they are putting into it, then we can change the world. Women Who Care wants to assist women financially and also to empower them, educate them and inspire them to bring forth great beings to this planet.

Eight Women Give Birth on Labor Day

This September, Maui will host a "Vagina Monologue type" performance of Birth.  It is a play written by critically acclaimed playright Karen Brody who is a mother and journalist, who became inspired to have mothers tell the story of childbirth as it is today in America.

Eight Maui actresses, including Kathy "Tita" Collins will be performing Birth for the first time in Hawaii. These true  stories told on stage, range from empowered home births to elective cesareans .  More than 100 women were interviewed and their stories inspired playright Karen Brody to bring crucial issues to the stage.

"BOLD is a global movement to raise awareness and encourage mothers and fathers worldwide to learn the truth about childbirth and make informed birth choices," says Brody.

After worldwide performances of Birth in 2006, critics embraced Birth as part of a global movement to make maternity care mother-friendly.  In September, Birth will be performed in venues around the world including Chicago, Austrailia, Alaska, New York, The Netherlands, Washington, D.C. and Maui.  Proceeds from each show will benefit local mother-friendly charities. Here on Maui the proceeds will go to a non-profit organization called  Women Who Care.  This is a charitable organization which encourages women to have empowered birth experiences and provides financial assistance to women in need. Find more information at the website at www.womenwhocare.org.

Robin Garrison, the plays' director and founder of Women Who care, adds "this play will make you laugh, cry, and inspire you to make a difference in your community."

Obstetrician and author Christiane Northrup says this about the movement, "Birth on Labor Day is an exciting, uplifting, and empowering answer to our nation's childbirth crisis."

Birth will be performed at the Iao Theatre in Wailuku on September 1st, 15th and 29th at 5:00 PM each night.

Tickets are available at Maui Child Toys and Books in Makawao, Gecko Trading in Makawao, Rambutan in Paia,  Maui Steadfast Physical Therapy in Wailuku and on the web at: www.womenwhocare.org
